Megan Armstrong- Social Media Work Experience- Greenwood Academy

My name is Megan Armstrong, and I use social media to express myself. The use of social media has been part of my life since joining secondary school as a way to communicate and keep up to date with the larger number of peers I was and still am surrounded by. Since then it has become an important part of everyday life. Social media not only stands for a personal use but a vital part of my school and work.

We took pictures around the site, both exploring and developing our

photographic skills and camera technique.

We admired the landscape around where we worked.

My preferences on social media rely on which platforms I use. I prefer to use Instagram, and Snapchat. The use of photos on both Instagram and Snapchat means I can live in the moment, displaying my everyday life through photographic meaning rather than of words. My general experiences online are good. I’ve never been personally targeted or subjected to hate.

I wanted to work as a social media assistant as I thought it would benefit my online life greatly. Beith Community Trust was the ideal place to do that.  It would open my eyes to employable aspect of these platforms, and help to form a more professional relationship with their uses.

The place itself has a real sense of character, and the work they are undergoing here is truly impressive. I am looking forward to returning soon and seeing the finished product.

This picture was taken on our second day of work experience. It shows the mansion on the premises.

What I have learned?

From the past few days my knowledge and expertise on specific apps has definitely improved. Generally in the use of Eventbrite, Hootsuite, and WordPress. I have discovered the importance of utilising these educational tools to help a project gain momentum and attention. I have learned how to create blogs, using Microsoft Word to create a template. My general use of computers and typing skill has increased, resulting in a more efficient dictation with fewer mistakes. On this date, we created a mock newsletter which proved very good fun. We spent a lot of time, correcting and consolidating our product, and finalised it to a very high and clean standard. It has accommodated for an increase in my confidence, and saw my character more willing to invest in new adventures. My camera skills have improved also. Coming from a background, disconnected from art and photography it has definitely revealed my creative and imaginative side. It has provided for a lot of thinking and exploring also. I only have one day left of Work Experience and I don’t doubt that in such a short space of time I will discover a new aspect of technology. The perks of this job.

My co-worker and friend Gillian who acted as a model for the photographs.

On Wednesday, we unfortunately had other commitments in the form of a School Concert so we only had around 1 hour and a half to spare. In this time, instead of joining in with the cooking we decided to take pictures of the other staff doing so themselves. It actually proved to be great fun!  We then wrote a mock Press Release about our concert.
