How I Use Social Media
As a member of the North Ayrshire Youth Council Executive Committee, Greenwood Academy’s Pupil Council and Rights Respecting Schools Group and an Ambassador for the Year of Young People, I’ve found that social media is a vital tool for collecting people’s opinions, advertising events, and telling people how their views are being heard and utilised to take action on the issues that matter most to them.

I also use social media to contact my friends. Being a Year of Young People Ambassador has allowed me to make friends from all over Scotland. Sometimes social media is the only way we have of communicating.
Social media additionally allows me to speak to my friends from school and to help build strong relationships with people who I perform with as part of the NA Schools Senior Orchestra. Working together well is crucial in that sort of group.
Why I Wanted to Do This Work Experience
My dream career is to be a journalist. I love sharing information with people, and hearing and spreading individuals’ feelings and ideas. Because of this I felt that the work experience as a Social Media Assistant would be the perfect work experience for me, allowing me to grasp a deeper understanding of how social media can be used to bring people together and to tell people about important matters.
This would not only help me in a potential career, but also to more effectively reach wider audiences when I’m volunteering with the NA Youth Council and other groups.

I felt that work experience at Beith Trust would be ideal, as I’m passionate about working with the community. I love learning about all the events and groups people create for their local areas.
During Work Experience
On Wednesday morning the staff, volunteers and I were cooking. Between us we made lunch for all of us, including soup, curry and a cake. Everyone worked together and there was a happy atmosphere. Once all the food had been made, everyone sat down to eat lunch together and socialise.

During my work experience I made a mock Press Release about a recent school concert. And I made a mock Newsletter containing information about upcoming Beith Trust events. I’ve also learned about WordPress.
