Social Media is a powerful tool in a modern, information technology society. The words of one can be seen by hundreds, thousands or even millions of people. To understand social media is to understand people and what appeals to them. I chose this career path as it lines up more with my views and what I enjoy. From Facebook to Reddit, I’ve scoured the internet for everything: basic knowledge to dogs doing funny things. I’ve tried my hand at some aspects of internet content creation and media but now I’ve decided to make it a career choice and further my experience in a professional environment. I’ve written articles for websites, made videos for live-streams and YouTube and I am an Editor for a website but I’ve never been paid for these things, only ever repaid with experience, arguably just as valuable.
Coming to Beith Community Development Trust will allow me to gain new experience in a new setting with new people for a new cause. A cause that I am interested in as it affects so many people in Scotland and even in the rest of the UK. With many high street shops shutting down in smaller towns, we’re seeing more and more people take their money to bigger towns like Glasgow and Ayr or even online. With a lack of shops in local towns comes a decrease in income which leads to a whole host of other problems.
Aimed at ensuring Beith does not fall and is lifted up from the shadows, Beith Community Development Trust is dedicated to ensuring that Beith continues to grow on its own merits and successes, allowing Beith to return to its proud heritage and that is something I agree with and wish to support.
